Nepal is the birthplace of the Lord Buddha, There are a huge number of Buddhist people majority in Nepal, becoming a pilgrimage destination for Buddhist follower all over the world. Main objectives of Teach Buddhist Monks at monastery is to give opportunities to those who interested to teaching monks in return receiving a great experience and knowing their way of monk lifestyle.
During volunteer program you will be placed in monastery where you will teach English to monks for 2 to 3 hours per day. Teaching English to Buddhist monks at monasteries placement available at Kathmandu, Pokhara, Lumbini, and Solukhumbu. Most of the monastery has 10 to 30 student monks staying in monastery the number of students depend on size of monastery, volunteer have to teach beginners level English. Most of the monks speak Tibetan language as well as Nepali and English too. Some monasteries they have English subject curriculum so you can follow their curriculum, if you interested to use your own teaching methodology then you can apply it to teach monk, Nuns. If there is not any curriculum then you can use your own lesson plan that would be appropriate for Monks and nuns. If you don’t have any teaching materials and previous experience then organization provide you intensive course during your orientation course.
When Teaching English at Monastery you can teach basic conversational English course for Nuns and monks beside that Volunteers also organize games, painting, drawing and other creational activities also. Experience Required: It is not necessary any specific skills and qualification for Teach English to monks program. Upon your arrival you will receive relevant training towards Teach English to monk’s projects. If you are flexible and patient, you’ll cope better during the Teach English to monk’s project and successfully complete your project as working conditions. Teaching English at Monastery Program Requirements: Volunteers must be 16 years or older at the beginning of Teach English to monks volunteer program. Volunteers need to have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. The volunteer should bring energy and enthusiasm to make a difference.
Arrangement of room/food/supervision: CSVFN will manage your accommodation, food and supervision while you work in a volunteer program. You will stay either with a host family, in a project hostel or in a home base. In the home base, you’ll share your room with other volunteers and use communal toilets. You’ll be served 3 meals a day. Meals in the home base can be local or continental. In the host family, you’ll have a room for yourself and will be served 3 local meals a day. Staying with a host family will provide you with a wonderful opportunity to experience Nepali lifestyle and live with a warm and welcoming family. While volunteering, our staffs will visit you every two weeks. During the visit, we will check on your progress and make sure you’re satisfied and happy.
Transportation: Volunteers are met at the Nepal international airport in Katmandu, upon arrival into Nepal. Once you are in your placement you need to work out transport for any traveling you wish to do, whether this is simply to the local shops or further a field for sightseeing. All Teach English to monk’s projects are located just walking distance.
