Chepang research volunteer program is design to research the Marginalized caste Chepang and uplift their society. Chepang caste is a marginalized caste mostly deprived of Nepal. They specially reside in more remote, hilly, slope land and tunnel of Makawanpur, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan Districts. Chepangs nourish them by consuming wild roots, tuber, a kind of eatable yam, a kind of creeper bulb, nettle and mushroom found in Jungle instead of producing food grain by cultivation. Chepang residing in hilly regions suffered yearly by starvation, after suffering from starvation, they go to Jungles far from their residents in search of wild roots. Due to poor and pitiful financial condition, they can not send their children in school. The numbers of educated persons in the Chepang community are very low. As they are deprived financially, but they are culturally wealthy and there are various interesting contents in these regard; they divide equally to younger and elder while having food, use food which could not consume by the small children as snack, not to cover full body by clothes, to wear thick loincloth and shawl by women, to wear thick loincloth and cloth wrapped round the waist by men, not tough dead body by pregnant woman and her husband, not kill any animal by husband while his wife is in pregnant condition, to feed milk of senior mother (mother’s elder sister) before feeding milk of mother after birth of child, to give name of child same which day he/she born, to marry son of maternal uncle and daughter of aunty (father sister), to follow social custom like sodhanipung and thegan pung while concluding marriage, to give tree of Chiuri as dowry and considered poor who has not tree of Chiuri etc. Though having marginalized, Chepang caste rich of distinguished cultural recognition and custom speak self Chepang language. But they have not words in Chepang languge to denote equipments for agriculture works. Because they did not use to cultivate since ancestor period, which means that they are learning recently. Though they seem like Mongolian, Chepang caste are two types including Kachhare and Pukanthali.
As Chepang are depriving from illiteracy, starvation, lack and no civilization, the organization has been operating various programs like to provide opportunity of study to the children of Chepang community, to provide informal education to senior citizens and for the purpose, it is finding sponsor for their children, to provide basic education, to provide informal education to senior citizens and uneducated youths, marginalized uplift volunteer program to extend comprehensive awareness program in the community. We request to entire to express solidarity in our campaign as volunteer. Let move forward jointly by holding each other from today to educate by taking bath in the sea of support to children of marginalized caste by making sea upon collecting drop-drop services from volunteers of the world. Social study and research can be made subject of marginalized castes and their culture, arts and inhabitant. Available Durations: 4weeks to 12 weeks
Experience Required: It is not necessary any specific skills and qualification for Chepang research volunteer program. Upon your arrival you will receive relevant training towards the Chepang research volunteer projects. If you are flexible and patient, you’ll cope better during the Chepang research project and successfully complete your project as working conditions. For Chepang research project volunteer may need physical efforts, so you should be in good health. We just ask our volunteers to be flexible, enthusiastic, be patient and an open mind. Chepang research program is open to worldwide participants, families, couples and individuals.
Project Location: Chepang research project placements available on Makawanpur, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan Districts only. Most of the volunteer placements are located within 2-4 km. from their accommodation and volunteers use local transportation such as mini bus or taxis for their commuting.
Program start dates: Chepang research program starts every month, year round.

Program Requirements: Volunteers must be 16 years or older at the beginning of Chepang research program. Volunteers need to have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. The volunteer should bring energy and enthusiasm to make a difference.
Arrangement of room/food/supervision: CSVFN will manage your accommodation, food and supervision while you work in a volunteer program. You will stay either with a host family, in a project hostel or in a home base. In the home base, you’ll share your room with other volunteers and use communal toilets. You’ll be served 3 meals a day. Meals in the home base can be local or continental. In the host family, you’ll have a room for yourself and will be served 3 local meals a day. Staying with a host family will provide you with a wonderful opportunity to experience Nepali lifestyle and live with a warm and welcoming family. You can even learn to cook Nepali food. While volunteering, our staffs will visit you every two weeks. During the visit, we will check on your progress and make sure you’re satisfied and happy.
Transportation: Volunteers are met at the Nepal international airport in Katmandu, upon arrival into Nepal. Once you are in your placement you need to work out transport for any traveling you wish to do, whether this is simply to the local shops or further a field for sightseeing. Travel will usually be by micro bus, tempo, taxi, larger buses or simply walking. Several projects are just walking distance.
